Bentley Mulsanne Key Celebrates Its Centenary

Aesthetics

Function
The Bentley Mulsanne Key has two buttons: one that opens the trunk, and another that turns on the vehicle. It also has a button to switch on the parking break. The key is constructed from vegetable tanned leather and takes two days to craft each one. The key is cut by hand, shaped, stitched to seal, and polished to achieve a high-quality result. It is small and sturdy and matches the Bentley key perfectly. Its design resembles the Volkswagen Phaeton's large car key, however it feels more heavy and luxurious.
It also has Secure-A-Key that helps to prevent theft of keys that are keyless. This device is inserted into the remote control fob and then shuts it off in the event that the key isn't used for a few minutes. It prevents thieves from transmitting the key's frequency to other devices that can be used to unlock and start the vehicle.

Bentley estimates that it takes around 500 man hours to design and put together the typical Mulsanne. The Crewe factory workers don't use a machine to space perfectly matched cross stitched leather seats. Instead, they do it by hand. And rather than letting the car's built in sensors guide it to parallel and perpendicular parking spots, drivers have to perform the task by hand.
